Dystonia Europe is delighted to celebrate the success of this year’s Dystonia Awareness Month, which saw a remarkable increase in online engagement, helping to raise awareness of dystonia and amplify the voices of people living with the condition.
Throughout September, Dystonia Europe shared personal stories, educational resources and advocacy messages, as well as the popular #MoreThanDystonia campaign.
Across Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, engagement grew substantially during the campaign period, with reactions, comments and shares all recording impressive increases. In particular, comments increased by more than 900%, demonstrating a high level of community participation and meaningful conversation around dystonia awareness. Overall engagement rates also increased, reflecting the strong resonance of the campaign’s messages and the willingness of people to share, discuss and support awareness-raising content.
“Awareness is created through conversations, shared experiences and community action,” said Gill Ainsley, President of Dystonia Europe. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who engaged with our campaign this September. Every share, comment, story and conversation helps increase understanding of dystonia and brings us closer to a world where people living with the condition feel recognised, supported and understood.”
Several campaign themes resonated particularly strongly with audiences, including personal experiences of living with dystonia, educational content explaining the condition, and stories highlighting the resilience, achievements and everyday realities of people affected by dystonia. These stories helped showcase that dystonia is about much more than symptoms, while also giving visibility to the challenges faced by those living with the condition.
As September draws to a close, Dystonia Europe extends its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to Dystonia Awareness Month’s success. Together, we are building greater understanding of dystonia across Europe and beyond.
