On behalf of the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) and neurological patients, Dystonia Europe’s Executive Director, Monika Benson, attended the annual EAN Big Education meeting in Vienna last February.
The European Academy of Neurology (EAN) is the professional association for neurologists in Europe with about 45,000 members, and there are another 40,000 not belonging to the society. But even more neurologists are needed across Europe in order to care for all the patients affected by a neurological condition.
According to the most recent findings from The Global Burden of Disease an estimated 449.2 million people are affected by one or more neurological disease in the European region.
EAN President Elena Moro attended the meeting and underlined the emergency for more neurologists to optimise care. ”We have to care about people living with neurological disorders”, she said.
Chair of the committee Natalie Nasr stressed the importance of making neurology accessible and the role of current professors to be role models and good teachers.
The 30 participants of the meeting took part in group workshops focusing on different themes, integrating AI being one. It is clear that AI will have an impact on both the medical profession and the patients and the conclusion was the way forward is partnership.
