Sophie Araujo from Boston Scientific welcoming everybody to the meeting
Once a year Boston Scientific organizes the DBS Academy. This year about eighty participants, neurologists, and neurosurgeons from across Europe had come to Budapest in Hungary for the meeting.
The latest Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) technologies from Boston Scientific were displayed in various presentations. The new directional lead with sixteen contacts and improved programming software will hopefully lead to improved treatment outcomes for patients.
On the second day there was a roundtable session where Dystonia Europe Executive Director Monika Benson joined the meeting.
The panel discussed patient communication around Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and how to help overcome fears.
Professor Jens Volkmann leading the roundtable sessionMonika Benson stressed the importance of patient education and knowledge and how we can work on this together, i.e. the industry, the neurologists, and the patient community. An educated patient will have less fear of the disease and available treatments such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).
We thank Boston Scientific for an interesting and especially important meeting to increase knowledge and inspire for continued advancements.
